Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to teach ballet classes at advanced levels to young adults. The unit applies to those who teach syllabus or non-syllabus ballet to pre-professional students aged 15 to 20 years. This level includes separate learning outcomes for males and females to reflect the requirements of classical ballet and the physical and mental development of people aged 15 to 20. Exercises and teaching methods used should be suited to students within this age range.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Analyse and interpret the learning outcomes
- 1.1 Identify and discuss aspects of the learning outcomes
- 1.2 Analyse anatomical limitations that may affect students’ technique
- 1.3 Support the qualities and principles of learning outcomes as required
2. Teach learning outcomes for male and female classical ballet technique
- 2.1 Distinguish male-specific exercises in the learning outcomes and explain why they are male-specific
- 2.2 Design and apply exercises that maximise injury prevention specific to males
- 2.3 Define male dancer’s virtuosity
- 2.4 Distinguish female-specific exercises in the learning outcomes and explain why they are female-specific
- 2.5 Design and apply exercises that maximise injury prevention specific to females
- 2.6 Design exercises to strengthen and complement pointe work in the learning outcomes
- 2.7 Instruct students according to individual physical and emotional needs
- 2.8 Encourage class participants to perform as a group
3. Develop and maintain advanced classical ballet teaching knowledge
- 3.1 Identify and discuss sources of advanced classical ballet knowledge
- 3.2 Identify and discuss sources of dance injury prevention research, techniques and programs
- 3.3 Apply understanding of advanced classical ballet techniques and injury prevention techniques to learning outcomes
