Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to apply shotcrete underground in civil construction and metalliferous mining. This includes preparing team members to apply shotcrete underground and overseeing and reporting on task execution.It applies to those working in operational roles. They generally work under minimal supervision to undertake a broad range of tasks in varied work contexts, using some discretion and judgement in selecting equipment, services or contingency measures. Licensing, legislative and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors. Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare to apply shotcrete underground
  • 1.1 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work instruction and shift changeover details
  • 1.2 Access, interpret and apply documentation required to apply shotcrete and confirm work activity is compliant
  • 1.3 Select and wear personal protective equipment according to job requirements
  • 1.4 Select plant, tools and equipment required to carry out tasks and check for faults
  • 1.5 Inspect and assess site conditions to determine if scaling is required and if so, make necessary arrangements
  • 1.6 Conduct equipment pre-start checks according to manufacturer specifications
  • 1.7 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures within scope of role
  • 1.8 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures and identify steps required to respond to emergencies
  • 1.9 Inspect and assess suitability of ground control mechanism
  • 1.10 Confirm adequate ventilation using required dust suppression equipment and extraction methods
2. Apply shotcrete
  • 2.1 Prepare and clean targeted surface for maximum shotcrete adhesion
  • 2.2 Erect barriers according to job requirements
  • 2.3 Minimise the creation of gases and personnel exposure to fumes according to safe shotcreting processes
  • 2.4 Select and apply shotcrete utilising required application method according to manufacturer specifications and ground condition
3. Conduct housekeeping activities
  • 3.1 Maintain required barriers and signs after shotcreting according to job and site requirements
  • 3.2 Complete required documentation according to site requirements
  • 3.3 Clean equipment, ascertain condition of equipment and confirm safe and efficient operations according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
  • 3.4 Pass on end of shift information to oncoming shift
