Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to solve electrical problems in remote community network systems in the electricity supply industry (ESI).It includes solving electrical problems on network systems in a remote community, completing work safely, documenting problem-solving activities and providing solutions to predictable problems on remote community network systems. It also includes working safely; diagnosing problems; applying problem-solving procedures; and using voltages, currents and resistance measuring devices to provide solutions derived from measurements and calculations to predictable circuit/systems problems.The application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence/registration to practice in the workplace.Other conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements which must be confirmed prior to commencing this unit.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare to solve electrical problems on network systems in a remote community
  • 1.1 Work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) workplace procedures for work are obtained and confirmed
  • 1.2 Hazards are identified, WHS/OHS risks assessed and control measures identified in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 1.3 Circuit problems are obtained from documentation or relevant personnel to determine scope of work
  • 1.4 Advice is sought from relevant personnel to ensure work is coordinated effectively with others
  • 1.5 Materials required for work are identified and obtained in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 1.6 Plant, equipment, tools, testing devices and personal protective equipment (PPE) required for work is identified, obtained and confirmed in working order
2 Solve electrical problems on network systems in a remote community
  • 2.1 WHS/OHS, sustainable energy and environmental principles and practices are monitored and followed to reduce incidents in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 2.2 Need to test or measure live electrical components is determined in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 2.3 Circuits are checked and isolated in accordance with job requirements and workplace procedures
  • 2.4 Electrical system problems are solved from measured and calculated values
  • 2.5 Unplanned events in solving electrical problems in remote community network systems are responded to in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 2.6 Problems are solved without damage to apparatus, circuits and systems, the surrounding environment and/or services in accordance with sustainable energy practices and workplace procedures
3 Complete work and document problem-solving activities
  • 3.1 WHS/OHS and environmental incidents are reported in accordance with workplace procedures, as required
  • 3.2 Worksite is cleaned and made safe in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 3.3 Justification for solutions used to solve circuit problems is documented in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 3.4 Work records, reports and/or documentation are completed in accordance with workplace procedures
