Description
This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to prepare, set out and install walls, wall linings, framing, partitions, doors, windows and mouldings to internal shop areas.The unit supports construction workers engaged in creating new shops or renovating existing shops. The work is completed on site concurrently with other shopfitting work and must be scheduled to accommodate both client requirements, where the shop is operational, and the requirements of other shopfitters and associated contractors.It applies to the construction of discrete areas within a shop, such as fitting or treatment rooms.No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit of competency at the time of endorsement.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Plan and prepare.
  • 1.1 Job requirements are obtained, confirmed and applied to planning.
  • 1.2 Work site is inspected, conditions and hazards are identified and reported as required, and health and safety requirements are confirmed with relevant personnel and applied to planning.
  • 1.3 Job safety analysis (JSA) or safe work method statement (SWMS) is reviewed and amended as required in consultation with relevant personnel.
  • 1.4 Tasks are sequenced and scheduled in consultation with team members, other site personnel and client as required, to ensure work is completed within given timeframe.
  • 1.5 Tools and equipmentare selected to carry out tasks according to job requirements, checked for serviceability, and faults are rectified or reported before starting work.
  • 1.6 Delivered materials for internal walls and fixtures are checked for quality and completeness, unloaded and placed in well protected area on site.
  • 1.7 Effective verbal and non-verbal communication is maintained with team members, supervisor and other personnel working on site, as required.
2 Install internal wall framing and lining.
  • 2.1 Internal wall framing is set out according to job specifications.
  • 2.2 Framing is constructed with door and window openings and steps, as required, according to job specifications.
  • 2.3 Surface is set out to provide a balanced panel or board effect to specified width and height.
  • 2.4 Lining material is marked and cut to length or shape, according to job specifications.
  • 2.5 Lining is fixed to walls according to job and manufacturer specifications.
3 Install partitions.
  • 3.1 Location for partitions is set out and marked according to job plan and specifications.
  • 3.2 Components are cut to accurate size according to plans and specifications.
  • 3.3 Locations for component connections are marked and prepared according to designed spacings.
  • 3.4 Fixing and fastenings are installed to secure each junction of components tight together, flush on partition face and within ±2 mm of set out.
  • 3.5 Partitions are assembled and secured square and plumb according to job plan and specifications.
4 Cut and fix decorative mouldings.
  • 4.1 Mouldings are marked, cut to length, positioned and fitted according to specifications.
  • 4.2 Mitre joints are fixed flush to face and true.
  • 4.3 Scribed joints, where required, are marked, cut to length, positioned and fixed according to specifications.
5 Clean up.
  • 5.1 Work area is cleared and materials disposed of, reused or recycled according to legislation, regulations, codes of practice and job specifications.
  • 5.2 Tools and equipment are cleaned, maintained and stored according to workplace requirements.
