This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to set up/pack up drill site in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries.This unit is appropriate for those working in drillers assistant and driller roles. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for setting up and packing up of drill sites
  • 1.1 Access, interpret and apply set up/pack up drill site documentation and ensure the work activity complies
  • 1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  • 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
  • 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
  • 1.5 Communicate and coordinate activities with others throughout the work activity
  • 1.6 Test the working order of required safety equipment
  • 1.7 Erect and observe warning signs and barriers
  • 1.8 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
  • 1.9 Store materials to minimise hazards and contamination
2. Assist driller to set up drill rig
  • 2.1 Carry out the instructions on work scheduling in logical sequence
  • 2.2 Assist unloading rig and equipment and ensure no damage
  • 2.3 Set out required tools and/or equipment
  • 2.4 Take appropriate weather precautions for equipment and stores
3. Set up and dismantle ancillary equipment
  • 3.1 Set up and dismantle ancillary equipment
  • 3.2 Provide connecting services to and from equipment
  • 3.3 Carry out pre-start checks and shutdown procedures
4. Pack up drill site
  • 4.1 Complete site housekeeping
  • 4.2 Load and secure equipment as directed
