This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to check the balance and balancing of equipment.Balancing may include the addition or removal of material and all specifications for machine operation and degree of balance to be supplied.Where wheel and tyre balancing is required unit MEM27029 Maintain wheels and tyres should be selected.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.Band: AUnit Weight: 2

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Determine job requirements
  • 1.1 Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • 1.2 Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  • 1.3 Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
  • 1.4 Identify job requirements from specifications, drawings, job sheets or work instructions
2 Check balance
  • 2.1 Apply principles of equipment balance testing
  • 2.2 Select most appropriate balancing check procedure
  • 2.3 Set up component correctly and to site/manufacturer's procedures for balance check
  • 2.4 Determine balance/out-of-balance and compare to specification requirements
  • 2.5 Record out-of-balance readings to prescribed procedures
3 Balance equipment
  • 3.1 Apply principles and methods of rigid and/or flexible rotation balancing
  • 3.2 Use techniques of single and/or multi-plane balancing appropriate to application
  • 3.3 Balance equipment utilising correct procedures
