This unit develops a participant’s skills and knowledge required to perform plant operational maintenance in Coal mining.This unit is appropriate for those working in operational roles.Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors. Relevant information must be sourced prior to application of the unit.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for plant operational maintenance
  • 1.1 Access, interpret and apply service perform plant operational maintenance documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
  • 1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  • 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
  • 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
  • 1.5 Select and prepare appropriate tools, equipment and materials for use and transport to the worksite
  • 1.6 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
2. Conduct planned routine maintenance
  • 2.1 Obtain and interpret maintenance schedule and coordinate resources
  • 2.2 Complete planned routine maintenance
  • 2.3 Record any follow-up action required
3. Conduct breakdown maintenance
  • 3.1 Evaluate the extent of work required to fix the breakdown and put in place site procedures to minimise downtime/loss of production
  • 3.2 Complete breakdown maintenance
  • 3.3 Record details of maintenance action completed and/or required
4. Conduct temporary repairs
  • 4.1 Identify the location of the problem and prioritise the requirement to minimise downtime/loss of production
  • 4.2 Assess the requirement for temporary repairs and identify and acquire resources
  • 4.3 Complete the repair
  • 4.4 Record details of temporary repairs
5. Finalise the maintenance activity
  • 5.1 Clear work area and dispose of or recycle materials
  • 5.2 Clean and maintain condition of equipment, ensure suitability for use, and address/report issues
