Description

This qualification reflects the role of enrolled nurses with advanced skills who work in a specialised area of nursing practice. At this level, enrolled nurses integrate and adapt specialised, technical and theoretical knowledge to address a diverse range of clinical situations and challenges in their area of specialisation. They contribute to the continuous improvement of clinical practice using research and participation in broader organisational quality processes. Enrolled nurses retain responsibility for their own actions while remaining accountable to the Registered Nurse/Midwife for all delegated functions.


Note that the scope of practice for this job role is determined by state and territory legislative requirements and the policies and procedures of the employing organisation. Users of this qualification must refer to those instruments in the development of training and assessment strategies.

Total number of units = ten (10)
- three (3) core units
- seven (7) elective units, consisting of:
- units required for one (1) specialisation as detailed below
- up to two (2) units from the electives listed below, or any endorsed Training Package or accredited course - these units must be relevant to the work outcome

Packaging Rules for each specialisation:

Five (5) Group A electives, including HLTENN007, HLTENN023 and HLTENN024, must be selected for award of the Advanced Diploma of Nursing (Acute care)
All Group B electives must be selected for award of the Advanced Diploma of Nursing (Aged care and individual support work)
All Group C electives must be selected for award of the Advanced Diploma of Nursing (Critical care)
Five (5) Group D electives, including CHCMHS005, CHCMHS006 and HLTENN031, must be selected for award of the Advanced Diploma of Nursing (Mental health)
All Group E electives must be selected for award of the Advanced Diploma of Nursing (Perioperative)
All Group F electives must be selected for award of the Advanced Diploma of Nursing (Renal care)
Five (5) Group G electives, including HLTENN007, HLTENN016 and HLTENN032, must be selected for award of the Advanced Diploma of Nursing (Rural and remote)

All electives chosen must contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.

Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who are currently working in Australia as an enrolled nurse and hold current registration as an enrolled nurse without notation with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au
