Description
This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to apply the administration of basic emergency first aid treatment and the management of life threatening situations where an unconscious person requires expired air resuscitation (EAR) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).This unit does not meet all of the requirements expected of designated First Aid Officers.The competencies required for situations involving isolation of persons from hazardous electrical situations is covered in unit MEM18049 Disconnect/reconnect fixed wired equipment up to 1000 volts a.c./1500 volts d.c.. and unit MEM18050 Disconnect/reconnect fixed wired equipment over 1000 volts a.c./1500 volts d.c..No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.Band: AUnit Weight: 1

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Determine job requirements
- 1.1 Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- 1.2 Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
- 1.3 Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
2 Perform emergency first aid
- 2.1 Demonstrate correct procedures for expired air resuscitation (EAR) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a mannequin
- 2.2 Carry out first aid treatment of injuries
- 2.3 Record details of first aid administered
- 2.4 Demonstrate understanding of relevant regulatory and legislative requirements
