Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes required to safely use load shifting equipment.It applies to those in a manufacturing environment and involves the application of skills and knowledge to select and use suitable load shifting equipment and perform pre-operational inspections to ensure its safe operation.Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements may apply to this unit in some jurisdictions. Users are advised to check with the relevant regulatory authority.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Inspect load shifting equipment
- 1.1 Complete inspection of load shifting equipment according to workplace procedures
- 1.2 Identify load weights and volumes and receive confirmation from supervisor
- 1.3 Identify and document equipment faults and report to appropriate personnel
2. Lift, shift and place load
- 2.1 Identify load characteristics and handling requirements to select an appropriate shifting device
- 2.2 Plan shifting route, and identify and control potential hazards
- 2.3 Place load in specified locations without causing damage to property, machinery or equipment
- 2.4 Complete lift, shift and placement of load using approved work health and safety (WHS) methods and equipment, according to workplace procedures
3. Complete load shifting operations
- 3.1 Complete post-inspection of load shifting equipment
- 3.2 Identify, tag and report faults
- 3.3 Store and secure load shifting equipment in accordance with workplace requirements
- 3.4 Complete load shifting documentation and maintenance records according to workplace procedures
