Description
This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to inspect products, keep records and provide feedback on the conformance of product to specifications and applies to inspection of completed or partly completed products produced by others. It applies to a range of manufacturing enterprises and requires application of a range of measuring equipment/devices/ tools.Where interpretation of technical drawings is required unit MEM09002 Interpret technical drawing should also be selected.Where the selection and use of engineering measurement is required unit MEM12023 Perform engineering measurements should also be selected.Where the selection and use of tools is required unit MEM18001 Use hand tools and unit MEM18002 Use power tools/hand held operations, as appropriate should also be selected.This unit is not intended to be applied to maintenance personnel carrying out their day-to-day activities, for example, fault finding, remedial and checking activities. These skills are covered by other units such as unit MEM18006 Perform precision fitting of engineering components.This unit should not be selected if any of the 24 series Non-destructive testing units have already been selected.Band: AUnit Weight: 2

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Determine job requirements
- 1.1 Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- 1.2 Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
- 1.3 Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
- 1.4 Identify job requirements from specifications, job sheets or work instructions
2. Inspect products
- 2.1 Test products for conformance to specifications in accordance with SOPs
- 2.2 Mark test status on conforming and non-conforming products and ensure records are accurately kept using SOPs
3. Provide feedback
- 3.1 Test/inspect/measure products after rework or repair
- 3.2 Report deficiencies or deviations according to SOPs
