State Implementation and Classification
Description
The Diploma of Marine Studies provides the learner with skills and knowledge to gain employment in the maritime industry or for further studies in marine sciences in the University sector. You will learn about safety at sea, seamanship, small vessel operations and maintenance, nautical knowledge, coastal navigation and meteorology to meet the competency requirements for a Coxswain Restricted to 8m and/or Coxswains Certificates of Proficiency, and Yachting Australia Coastal Yachtmaster theory.
You will also learn about marine biological and ecological systems, fishing and aquaculture technology and management strategies as well as post harvest catch handling. Learners can also elect to complete their PADI Open Water Diving qualification.
Students are also required to complete 100 hours of approved workplace training outside of formal class times.
This course has a significant component of practical training on board our fleet of 8 vessels, in designated fishing & engineering workshops and in laboratories.
