Description
To train people to actively participate in the collection, statistical
analysis, interpretation and reporting of sample data in a laboratory,
production or fieldwork setting.

Range of Variables
The module can be delivered on- or off-the-job. In either case, the learner
will need access to a suitable computer with spreadsheet, word processor and
statistical software.
It is essential that relevant applied problems be used in the learning process
to enable learners to learn to apply statistics in the workplace and to
stimulate interest. Examples of applied problems are included in Section 4 of
the Assessment Package in Part B of this document. Some references specific to
a scientific field listed on page 11 also contain examples, exercises and
important information to assist instructors in adapting the module to local
needs.
Where possible, team teaching can be used to assist learners to develop
statistical skills and apply these to practical problems. A statistics teacher
and laboratory/field technology instructor (eg. chemistry, geoscience) could
work together to provide an effective le
