Description
This is an entry-level course designed to provide the learner with the opportunity to complete a common core set of units from the CPC package, that is shared with a group of seven (7) trade pathways linked to ten (10) occupations. One of the seven (7) pathways is chosen, and these follow the listed partial trade-specific streams in the construction industry:
- Bricklaying / Blocklaying
- Solid Plastering
- Wall and Ceiling Lining
- Wall and Floor Tiling
- Painting and Decorating
- Carpentry or Joinery
- Mortar Trades
Schedule
- VET delivered to Secondary Students Pathway (VETDSS) for students completing senior secondary education in conjunction with a VET Certificate II program. The nominal hours for the units of competence completed within this course are 250 hours. In addition, secondary students are to complete a minimum of 110 hours of Work Placement/Practice which also contributes to (WACE) requirements.
- Pre-apprenticeship Pathway for students who have left school and are studying full-time at a Registered Training Provider. Pre-apprentice students are to undertake Work Experience in accordance with the guidelines (business rules) established by the Department of Training and Workforce Development or relevant State Training Authority. In Western Australia, the minimum Work Experience/Practice for a pre-apprentice undertaking this course is a minimum of 150 hours, in addition to the 250 nominal hours for the units of competence completed.
Prerequisite unit(s) must be assessed before assessment of any unit of competency. Check the unit of competency for information on specific prerequisite requirements. All prerequisite requirements are packaged in the qualification.
As the elective units below are only suggested model units, when importing units into the accredited course, check the prerequisite requirements.
Packaging Rules
To successfully complete this course, competency must be demonstrated in fourteen (14) units of competence.

Work Placement:
Relevant construction industry Workplace Learning/Experience or Work Practice undertaken concurrently with delivery of this course is mandatory to achieve the qualification and consolidate student learning and skills development. The duration will depend on delivery Pathway (described above).
* The elective units listed for each trade are a model program only. The electives for each trade group may be selected from the same trade Certificate III qualification as currently endorsed within the CPC and Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Packages.
Elective units must be chosen within the context of the trade-specific pathway that is being undertaken.
