Description

This is an entry-level course designed to provide the learner with the opportunity to complete a common core that is shared with a group of ten (10) trade pathways; then choose one of the following partial trade-specific streams in the construction industry:
- Bricklaying / Blocklaying
- Solid Plastering
- Wall and Ceiling Lining
- Wall and Floor Tiling
- Concreting
- Painting and Decorating
- Carpentry and Joinery
- Carpentry
- Joinery
- Roof Tiling

Schedule
On the 10 December 2020 the Training Accreditation Council approved the addition of ASBWA201 Practice Asbestos Awareness in the Construction Industry as a core in 52824WA Certificate II in Building and Construction (Pathway - Trades). They have advised that a 12 month teach out period applies to the qualification.

This course may be delivered as a:
- VET delivered to secondary students Pathway for students completing senior secondary education in conjunction with a VET program. The nominal hours for the units of competence and 220 hours of Work Placement meets the School Curriculum and Standards Authority and WA Certificate of Education (WACE) requirements.

- Pre-Apprenticeship Pathway for students who have left school and are studying full-time at a Registered Training Provider. Pre-apprentice students are to undertake Work Placement or Work Experience in accordance with guidelines (business rules) established by the Department of Training and Workforce Development or relevant State Training Authority. In Western Australia, the minimum Work Experience for a pre-apprentice undertaking this course is 125 hours, in addition to the 250 nominal hours for the units of competence completed. Packaging Rules
To successfully complete this course, competency must be demonstrated in fourteen (14) units of competence.
- Complete all eight (8) core units listed in Group 1 plus;
- Choose ONE (1) trade-specific pathway from Groups 2 - 10 and complete six (6) trade elective units plus;
- Work Placement:
- relevant construction industry Workplace Learning or Work Experience undertaken concurrently with delivery of this course is mandatory to achieve the qualification and consolidate student learning and skills development. The duration will depend on delivery Pathway (described above).
*The elective units listed for each trade area model program only. Additional electives for each trade group may be selected from the same trade Certificate III qualification as currently endorsed within the CPC and / or CPC08 Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Packages.

Elective units must be chosen within the context of the trade-specific pathway that is being undertaken.
