Description

This qualification covers senior operating room workers who provide a range of varied assistance functions to operating theatre personnel. This qualification is suited to Australian Apprenticeship pathways.

Occupational titles for these workers may include:
Senior theatre technician
Senior theatre wardsperson

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
To gain entry into HLT42012 Certificate IV in Operating Theatre Technical Support a candidate must demonstrate competence through a recognised training program or recognition process, in the following units of competency:
- BSBMED301B Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately
- HLTTH301D Provide theatre support services
- HLTTH302D Provide equipment support in an acute care environment
- HLTTH303D Identify and move to maintain a sterile field
(Note pre-requ: HLTIN301C)

PACKAGING RULES
Fifteen (15) units of competency are required for award of this qualification, including:
- eight (8) core units
- seven (7) elective units

A wide range of elective units is available, including:
- Group A electives which are recommended for culturally aware and respectful practice
- Other relevant electives listed in the qualification outline
- Units of competency to address workplace requirements and packaged at the level of this qualification or higher in Health and/or Community Services Training Packages
- Where appropriate, to address workplace requirements, up to three (3) units of competency packaged at the level of this qualification or higher in other relevant Training Packages or accredited courses where the details of those courses are available on TGA or other public listing
