Description

This qualification reflects the role of workers who assist in conducting hearing assessments to identify potential hearing impairment and ear disorders. This may include hearing screeners, allied health assistants who support audiometrists and audiologists in health care organisations, nurses and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers.
At this level, workers support the hearing assessment process by performing hearing screening and audiometric testing under the supervision of Diploma qualified audiometrists, audiologists, or other medical practitioners. They refer clients for further audiological or medical assessment, and may assist with care coordination, hearing device management and hearing health education programs.
Workers at this level do not prescribe or dispense hearing aids, and do not work as independent practitioners. They may work in medical or industrial contexts.
The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

Total number of units = Fourteen (14)
- Ten (10) core units
- Four (4) elective units, consisting of:
- Three (3) units from the electives listed below, at least one (1) of these units must be from Group A
- up to one (1) unit from the electives listed below or any endorsed Training Package or accredited course
