Description
This qualification reflects the role of a technical specialist with a range of telecommunications skills and extensive knowledge of the core and access network capabilities of the service provider. An individual in this role can:
plan the development of the customer access network infrastructure
plan the development of the core network for the service provider and asset owner
plan network capacity for new technology in products and services
analyse demand data and evaluate network growth and impact on the network.
This qualification prepares individuals to work in the telecommunications industry in planning and designing additions and implementations to accommodate network growth and new technologies. This is required for the national broadband infrastructure network planning.

Total number of units = twelve (12)- six (6) Core units plus
- six (6) Electives units
The elective units consist of:
Six (6) units selected from any of the elective groups listed below.
A maximum of two (2) elective units may be substituted with two units of competency from any currently endorsed Training Package or accredited course at AQF Level 5 or 6.
Elective units must be relevant to the work environment and the qualification, maintain the integrity of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) alignment and contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.
Units selected from other Training Packages or accredited courses must not duplicate units selected from or available within the ICT Information and Communications Technology Training Package.

Entry to this qualification is limited to those individuals who:
Have completed a Certificate IV in Telecommunications Network Design or its equivalent.
or
Have completed a minimum of three years equivalent full-time relevant workplace experience in the telecommunications industry with experience in provisioning, evaluation, planning, design, costing and deployment of core networks and access networks.
