To be awarded this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in 16 units of competency, consisting of:
- ten (10) core units plus
- six (6) elective units, of which:
- up to six (6) elective units may be chosen from the elective units listed below
- up to three (3) elective units may be chosen from a Certificate II qualification or above in this Training Package, another endorsed Training Package or accredited course, provided that the units chosen contribute to the vocational outcome of this qualification and do not duplicate the outcome of another unit chosen for the qualification.

1. The WA Pre-apprenticeship Program Business Rules provide for details on the requirements of the program. The business rules also outlines the amount of workplace experience a student is to undertake and RTO responsibilities in relation to pre-apprenticeship work placement.
2. The set of work placement coordination modules should be used to indicate that the RTO has undertaken and completed its responsibilities for establishing and monitoring work placements for each pre-apprentice student.
3. RTOs should report students in each module as each phase of the work placement is achieved.
4. The student does not incur course fees for the work placement modules as the nominal hours value for each of these modules is zero.
5. The Department of Training and Workforce Development will use the work placement coordination units reported for each pre-apprentice to monitor, and trigger funding for, RTO efforts in establishing and monitoring work placements.
6. The work placement coordination modules do not represent the amount of workplace experience a student must undertake.
7. The work placement coordination modules are non-assessable and do not specify skill and knowledge requirements.
8. Work placement coordination modules should only be reported as outcome “Non-assessable - satisfactorily completed” (NA for State Training Providers; 4 for private training providers).
9. The work placement coordination modules are to be used for the WA Pre-apprenticeship Program and not to be used for any other purpose.
