Description

This qualification covers youth justice workers who supervise young people who have been directed by the justice system to be in the care and direction of authorised community and/or government agencies.

The supervision will be managed through a range of community and institution-based programs designed to meet the social, behavioural, health, welfare, developmental and protection needs of young people.

Occupational titles may include:
Juvenile justice officer
Visits coordinator
Mentors
Youth justice officer
Secure environment worker
Youth residential worker
Unit coordinator / manager
Youth worker (juvenile justice)

Packaging Rules
Fifteen (15) units are required for award of this qualification including:
- eight (8) core units
- seven (7) elective units

A wide range of elective units is available, including:
- Group A electives of which one (1) unit must be selected for this qualification
- Group B elective which is recommended for culturally aware and respectful practice
- Group C first aid electives of which one (1) or more may be required for youth work in some jurisdictions
- Other relevant electives listed in the qualification outline and grouped to facilitate selection for specific contexts such as community youth justice work or centre-based youth justice work
- Units of competency to address workplace requirements and packaged at the level of this qualification or higher in Community Services and/or Health Training Packages
- Where appropriate, to address workplace requirements, up to three (3) units of competency packaged at the level of this qualification or higher in other relevant Training Packages or accredited courses where the details of those courses are available on TGA or other public listing
