Description

This qualification reflects the skills and knowledge for team leaders, supervisors, and specialist technical roles within an animal care facility, including companion animal and exhibited and wildlife environments.
The qualification applies to a range of roles including coordinators/managers of boarding/day care, breeding or shelter facilities, as well as senior zookeepers, aquarists, and wildlife carers. Individuals in these roles analyse information and exercise judgement to complete a range of skilled activities and apply specialist technical skills and knowledge to solve routine and non-routine problems. They have accountability for the work of others and for meeting organisational key performance indicators.
The qualification allows for a specialisation in Companion animal or Wildlife and exhibited animal facilities.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Packaging Rules
To achieve this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in:
Thirteen (13) units of competency:
- six (6) core units plus
- seven (7) elective units.

Elective units must ensure the integrity of the qualification’s Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) alignment and contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome. Electives can be chosen to provide a general qualification or a qualification with a specialisation.

For the award of the Certificate IV in Animal Facility Management (General )choose:
at least four (4) units from the electives in Groups A and/or B
- up to three (3) units from the electives listed in Groups A to C (not already selected) or any currently endorsed Training Package or accredited course.

For the award of the Certificate IV in Animal Facility Management(Companion animals) choose:
- at least four (4) units from the electives in Group A
- up to three (3) units from the electives listed in Groups A to C (not already selected) or any currently endorsed Training Package or accredited course.

For the award of the Certificate IV in Animal Facility Management(Wildlife and exhibited animals) choose:
- at least four (4) units from the electives in Group B
- up to three (3) units from the electives listed in Groups A to C (not already selected) or currently endorsed Training Package or accredited course.

At least four (4) of the seven (7) electives must be coded with an AQF indicator above level 3 or reflect outcomes above AQF level 3.

Entry Requirements

Prior to commencing this qualification, individuals must have the skills and knowledge to:
work independently and within a team in an animal care workplace
provide husbandry care for a variety of species or breeds in an animal care workplace
apply and communicate solutions to predictable and at times unpredictable problems relating to animals, clients and job role in an animal care workplace
make judgements on the selection of equipment, techniques and contingency measures relating to safe work practices and animal welfare principles.
These skills and knowledge may have been acquired through completion of a Certificate III or higher qualification relating to animal care, or through industry experience in an animal care workplace.
