Description
This qualification reflects the trade qualified role of a person installing, testing, maintaining, routine service and repairing a range of fire protection systems.
Occupational titles could include:
Fire sprinkler fitter tradesperson
Fire sprinkler fitter.
This qualification includes units of competency common to other qualifications in the plumbing industry as well as specialist fire protection units and can provide a pathway to further learning and work in the fire protection industry.
The plumbing industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered and assessed in this context.
Completion of the general construction induction training program specified by the model Code of Practice for Construction Work is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.
This is a licenced occupation. Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements may vary between states and territories. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.

Packaging Rules
To achieve this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in:- Thirty seven (37) units of competency:
- Thirty two (32) core units
- Five (5) elective units.
The elective units must ensure the integrity of the AQF alignment and contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome and are to be chosen as follows:
- A minimum of three (3) elective units must be chosen from those listed below,
- Up to two (2) units may be chosen from the elective units listed below or from any Training Package or accredited course.
NOTE: An asterisk (*) next to the unit code on TGA indicates that there are prerequisite requirements which must be met when packaging the qualification. Please refer to the Prerequisite requirements on TGA table for details.
1. Core Units
Thirty two (32) core units must be completed.
2. General Electives
A minimum of three (3) units must be chosen from the elective unit list.
