Description
This qualification covers consumer workers and carer workers who are employed within the mental health sector in government, public, private or community managed services.
This qualification is specific to workers who have lived experience of mental health problems as either a consumer or carer and who work in mental health services in roles that support consumer peers or carer peers.
Occupational titles may include:

Consumer representative
Peer support worker
Peer Mentor
Youth Peer Worker
Carer consultant
Carer representative
Aboriginal Peer Worker
Participation Coordinator
Family Advocate

Packaging Rules
Fifteen (15) units must be selected for award of this qualification including:- six (6) core units
- nine (9) elective units
A wide range of electives is available and can be packaged to provide a qualification packaged to address specific workplace requirements.
Elective units are to be packaged as follows:
- Group A electives of which one (1) unit must be selected for this qualification
To address specific requirements for work in mental health peer consumer work or mental health peer carer work, electives must be selected as specified below:
- Group B both electives are required for Consumer Mental Health Peer Work
- Group C both elective are required for Carer Mental Health Peer Work
- Units of competency to address workplace requirements and packaged at the level of this qualification or higher in Health and/or Community Services Training Packages
- Where appropriate, to address workplace requirements, up to two (2) units of competency packaged at this level or higher in other relevant Training Packages or accredited courses where the details of those courses are available on the NTIS or other public listing
