Description
This qualification reflects the role of those who work in a range of screen and media industries, including animation and visual effects, specialist make-up services, film and television, radio and podcasting, lighting and sound, content creation and technical broadcasting environments.
They use a broad range of specialised skills and a developed knowledge base in a wide variety of contexts in the screen, media, broadcasting and entertainment industries to solve a range of unpredictable problems, and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources. They may provide some leadership and guidance to others with limited responsibility for the output of others and so at this level would be expected to have technical skills to complete routine and non-routine tasks and functions, and communication skills to guide activities and provide technical advice.
The job roles that relate to this qualification may include radio/podcast presenter, sound recordist, radio broadcaster, audio narrator, radio producer, editor (film, television, podcast), audio editor (radio), journalist, digital producer, content creator, communications technologist, camera operator, assistant producer, assistant director, animator, digital artist, foley artist, special effects operator, lighting supervisor, specialist broadcast technologist, wigmaker, writer (multi-media), and make-up artist.
Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification considerations
National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work
The National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work applies to persons performing dogging and rigging work. Completion of the following units is required for certification at either basic, intermediate or advanced levels:
- CPCCLDG3001 Licence to perform dogging
- CPCCLRG3001 Licence to perform rigging basic level
- CPCCLRG3002 Licence to perform rigging intermediate level
- CPCCLRG4001 Licence to perform rigging advanced level.
National Code of Practice for Induction for Construction Work
Sets and staging for some performances or events may fall within the definition of construction work. If so, people entering the construction site are required to complete the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (Australian Safety Compensation Council, May 2007). Achievement of the unit CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry from the CPC Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package fulfils this requirement.

Total number of units = Thirteen (13)
- Four (4) core units plus
- Nine (9) elective units, of which:
- at least seven (7) elective units must be selected from Groups A, B, C and/or D
- up to two (2) elective units may be selected from Groups A, B, C, D, E, and/or F, or any other currently endorsed Certificate III or above training package qualification or accredited course.
Elective units must be relevant to the work environment and the qualification, maintain the overall integrity of the AQF alignment, not duplicate the outcome of another unit chosen for the qualification, and contribute to a valid industry-supported vocational outcome.
Where relevant, the choice of elective units set out in the packaging rules above can serve to provide the qualification with one of the following specialisations. The rules to achieve a specialisation are detailed at qualification end.

Content Creation and Production
- Five (5) Group C elective units must be selected and must include CUAPPR311 Produce creative work, CUAPOS411 Edit digital content for fast turnaround, and CUAWRT404 Perform writing and editing tasks
Film and Video Production
- Five (5) Group C elective units must be selected and must include CUAPPM312 Plan and prepare program content, CUAPOS411 Edit digital content for fast turnaround, and CUACAM311 Shoot material for screen productions
Broadcasting
- Seven (7) Group D elective units must be selected and must include CUABRT401 Install or upgrade broadcast equipment and facilities
- Four (4) core units plus
- Nine (9) elective units, of which:
- at least seven (7) elective units must be selected from Groups A, B, C and/or D
- up to two (2) elective units may be selected from Groups A, B, C, D, E, and/or F, or any other currently endorsed Certificate III or above training package qualification or accredited course.
